About this place
Reaching for simmering daikon radish or egg steeped in savory dashi as gentle steam rises from the pot is one of the classic pleasures of Japanese pub dining. At Yamayuki in Ichikawa, that experience centers on mildly seasoned Kyoto-style oden, complemented by charcoal-grilled skewers and thoughtful tofu creations designed to pair with drinks.
The signature Kyoto-style oden is offered as an assortment of 5 staples, typically featuring daikon radish, egg, chikuwa fish cake, konjac, and kombu kelp. Individual pieces are also on hand, including beef tendon, thick fried tofu (atsuaage), and fried tofu patties (ganmodoki). Each bite releases the gentle, layered umami soaked up from the simmering broth.
Aromatic skewers are another mainstay. In addition to a variety platter featuring cuts such as thigh, chicken and scallion (negima), cartilage, and liver, guests can order standard favorites like hearts and tail (bonjiri). Skewered minced chicken patties (tsukune) and tender chicken fillets can be customized with seasonings ranging from yuzu pepper paste and grated wasabi to plum with shiso and mentaiko cheese.
Tofu dishes show similar breadth. Options range from handmade tofu eaten simply with Hokkaido sun-dried sea salt and ichimi chili pepper to richer adaptations like tonkotsu-broth mapo tofu and spicy, piping-hot sundubu. Rounding out the menu are daily sashimi and rich mentaiko udon, offering fresh fish and satisfying finishes that invite new combinations on every visit.
The drinks list covers beer, wine, and cocktails alongside sake, shochu, and all-you-can-drink plans. With counter seating overlooking the kitchen, the space accommodates solo diners unwinding over a quiet glass as comfortably as small groups of friends or coworkers.
